To infinity and beyond
I am in Ottawa right now for my brother in-law’s wedding, Andrew and Chloie decided to get married on the 8th day of the 8th month, 8th year. The wedding ceremony is taking place at the National Art Gallery of Canada underneath the huge spider sculpture. Apparently this is the first time they have permitted an event beneath the spider.

I seen Radiohead at Parc Jean-Drapeau a couple nights ago. It was really solid because the International fireworks competition was also happening that night and it complimented the band's visuals and performance. I can't even remember the last time I was at a show with that many people. I estimated there was around 30,000 people! (In case you are wondering how I go about making this estimate, in my highschool there was 1600 students, and so I count the number of spaces the approximate size of the gymnasium floor.) Speaking of shows, as promised a couple weeks ago, here is the live minimal techno.electro set Standardmethod played at Soundwave Music Festival on July 20.

Super stoked on Baby Boogers
This news video made me smile! At first I thought this lady is ridiculous to spend 50k to clone her dead pitbull, but as I watched the story, and heard her speak, I forgot about the cloning and just laughed because her character is everything. She is soooo happy and thats what has me stoked about this video (well not to mention those puppies are super cute!) Enjoy!

Westcoast, Leeluu and the CBC
I have been home about a week since returning from BC where Kali and I did the standardmethod 'westcoast' tour. Soundwave was a blast (literally, my compressor gain on my Monomachine basslines was a bit high because the recording clips a bit!) everything sounded smooth on the P.A. though and people were dancing a lot.

One of the treats to coming home besides Kirsten's belly being a whole lot larger than it was when I left (she's just beginning the 7th month - and so far Leeluu is a real wiggler in there) there was a email from the CBC for a position as regional web developer for CBC.ca - Nova Scotia. So, we're talking (me and Leeluu's mommy, of course) and Nova Scotia seems like a really awesome change... I mean I love jamming by the ocean, but working everyday on cbc.ca, thats just super cool! We do a phone chat, preinterview styles, and now in less than 2 weeks, they are flying me to Halifax to meet the official panel for this position.

I feel confident about the interview and the whole process so far, but whats interesting is that one question that keeps popping up ever since this all began, 'Why do I do this?' So, I try to think of all the things I like about designing and coding and just being involved with the web in general beyond 'I love it' but I do, I love the whole idea of the web, the fact that there is this huge network of people collaborating, even if it is unintentional to some, the net doesn't sleep, and just grows and evolves and here's me, doing what I love to do, seemingly totally insignificant and microscopic to the whole thing you would think, until someone takes notice, and then another, and so on. Slowly and surely becoming an important part of something which is constantly changing and breathing and taking on a life of it's own. If anything on this planet has the ability to actually have an impact, or make a difference, even teach the world, the internet is it.
And as for design, typography and coding, well, that's just the icing on the cake!

Summer time & Parliament Hill
I had a couple meetings in Ottawa on Tuesday with a company I have been consulting with, Digital Inquiry (digitalinquiry.ca) This was a great trip, first we met with the Liberal Party of Canada president and following that the Canadian Ethnocultural Commission. I can’t discuss the projects but the latter is potentially very exciting and cool. So, we finish the meetings in the late afternoon, went for a beer, and after were invited to a reception on Parliament Hill. The rest is kind of silly but you can view the pics on my flickr and figure the rest out yourself!

This is cool. Summer plans are coming together nicely! July in BC, one of the highlights being Kali and I are playing a live set at Soundwave. Should be fun there are a lot of wicked artists there this year! Then August in Yerp... a week in Zurich and a week in Berlin where I will be hooking up with Native Instruments, hopefully to plan some cool projects. Gotta go! - snx

Sprechensproklacenstein!
Modeselektor was in town for the Mutek festival! Well, the festival did not go as well as hoped, too much rain, and one of the headliners, Radioslave, lost his records! So, we (Kali nad I) met up with Modeselektor, super smart Berliners, asked a few questions, and showed them the drink my buddy Switzerland came up with (Vodka + Orangina = Vogina). They loved it. So, we drank some of these, took some pics.. talked music and records all those good things... I will post the interview video when it is edited! Until then, heres a pic of Kali, Modeselektor and yours truly!
